Yellow crazy ant population explosions had been causing problems in Tuvalu for some time. Along with our partners from SPC BATS team, we assisted by training the Tuvalu Agriculture team in how to control yellow crazy ants, taking into account personal and environmental safety.

We worked together to control the ants on Tepuka islet in the Funafuti conservation area. Thee days after treatment we saw a 95% reduction in ant numbers.Members of the Funafuti community also got involved with the work, and they were very pleased with the outcomes.

After we left the Tuvalu Agriculture team independently undertook further control work in some of the more remote atolls. The reduction in ant numbers was similar to what we found during training.
